UNEP FCHS AGM

On behalf of the UN Environment Programme (UNEP), we have the pleasure to invite you to attend a high-level event devoted to sustainable finance for Africa. This will take place in the context of the annual meeting of the international network of Financial Centres for Sustainability (FC4S) from the 8th-10th of October 2019 in Geneva. The special meeting on Africa will take place from 14.30 – 18.00 at the Palais des Nations in presence of the African Ambassadors based in Geneva. On the agenda is the discussion and adoption of a regional FC4S programme for Africa. The FC4S Network was formally established in September 2017 by UNEP to enable the world’s leading financial centres to exchange experience, drive convergence, and take action on shared priorities to accelerate the expansion of green and sustainable finance. At the FC4S Annual Meeting in Shanghai in October 2018, the members invited the Secretariat to bring more African financial centres into the network. As of today, four African cities have joined the network; Casablanca (as a founding member), Nairobi, Lagos and Cairo and we are in the process of discussing membership with others. The Geneva meeting is also the occasion to focus on how sustainable finance may best be mobilized to implement the Sustainable Development Goals in African countries.
