Storytelling is an important way of explaining the work of International Organizations, and it is helpful to highlight topics of interest from our perspective. Techniques for telling a story through traditional videography methods have been well refined over the years, with audiences now experienced enough to understand what they are seeing on-screen, why something is lit the way it is, why one thing on screen is in focus while the rest is not, what might be happening off-screen that can be heard but not seen, etc. To celebrate International Print Day 2018, the United Nations Office at Geneva will look at a different method of publishing stories from International Organizations. When telling a story from an immersive perspective, traditional methods may not work, that is the challenge of a Virtual Reality producer. For that reason, we will highlight the art of storytelling using Immersive or Virtual Reality techniques, how to decide which stories will work in VR or which will not work. Is there a way that VR can be used to cover conferences, interviews and meetings in an interesting way that adds something to the story? Technically, we will cover some tips and tricks for filming, choosing the right surroundings, as well as discussing the best cameras and equipment available for a variety of budgets. Speakers: Nicole Carroll, Editor in Chief – USA Today, 2018 Pulitzer Prize Winner in Explanatory Reporting Ray Soto, Director of Emerging Technology for USA Today Network, 2018 Pulitzer Prize Winner in Explanatory Reporting David Bradshaw, Virtual Reality Producer for BBC Studios, producer of a number of award winning environmental VR productions worldwide
