Background
In its resolution 77/245, the UN General Assembly reaffirmed its call for the Fourth International Conference on Small Island Developing States (SIDS4) to be convened in 2024.
Hosted by Antigua and Barbuda, SIDS4 will take place on 27-30 May 2024 under the theme “Charting the Course Toward Resilient Prosperity”. The Conference will agree a bold new Programme of Action for SIDS, with concrete, measurable, targets to support SIDS to achieve their sustainable development objectives over the next ten years. The outcome will build on the SAMOA Pathway (2014); Mauritius Strategy (2004); and Barbados Programme of Action (1994).
The 2nd Session of the Preparatory Committee for the SIDS4 Conference will be held form 1-5 April 2024 2024 at the UNHQ in New York.
As per paragraph 38 of A/RES/77/245 and A/CONF.223/2024/PC/L.1, the non-governmental organizations and major groups identified in Agenda 21 and other stakeholders in consultative status with the Economic and Social Council, as well as those that were accredited to previous United Nations conferences on the sustainable development of small island developing States, held in Barbados, Mauritius and Samoa, should register in order to participate.
Representatives of organizations in consultative status with the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) can now register to attend the Second Meeting of the Preparatory Committee for the SIDS4 Conference on 1-5 April 2024 2024 (Plenary Meeting only).
NOTE: Representatives of accredited non-governmental organizations, major groups and other stakeholders will be able to observe the proceedings of the Second Meeting of the Preparatory Committee for the SIDS4 Conference on 1 April (10:00 – 1:00PM and 3:00 – 6:00PM) ONLY.
