Where Will We Go

Exhibition: 1-18 October 2018

About the Public Event:

On 11 October 2018, the Netherlands will welcome the public, and especially youth, to join in on a conversation with experts on the humanitarian implications of climate change. This event is hosted in light of the release of an alarming report on the impacts of global warming of 1.5°C above pre-industrial levels by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC). The public event will take place from 17:00h-19:00h at Serpentine Bar, Palais des Nations.

At the same time and at the same location, a photography exhibition of Dutch artist Kadir van Lohuizen will be on display. It depicts the consequences of the rising sea level for humans and therefore forms the perfect setting for experts and the public to have an informal discussion about the humanitarian implications of climate change.

For more information on the event and speakers, please visit @NLMissionGeneva on Facebook.

Registration is mandatory to be able to access Palais des Nations to attend the event.

About the Exhibition:

The photography exhibition, “Where will we go”, provides vivid visual coverage of the effects of climate change. Kadir has impressively managed to capture the global consequences of rising sea levels, affecting places where people live. The works of Kadir will be on display from 1-18 October and are open to the public.

Registration to visit the exhibition at a different time than the event is mandatory.

About the artist:

Kadir van Lohuizen (The Netherlands) has covered conflicts in Africa and elsewhere, but is probably best known for his long-term projects on the seven rivers of the world, the rising of sea levels, the diamond industry and migration in the Americas. For example: After hurricane Katrina destroyed New Orleans, he made several trips to the USA to document the aftermath of the storm. In the summer of 2010, to mark the fifth commemoration of Hurricane Katrina, Kadir exhibited images of Katrina’s devastation and the aftermath in a truck-exhibition that drove from Houston to New Orleans, a project in collaboration with Stanley Greene.

Kadir has received numerous prizes and awards in photojournalism. In 2000 and 2002 Kadir was a jury member of the World Press Photo contests and is currently on the supervisory board of the World Press Photo foundation.

Kadir is a frequent lecturer and photography teacher and is based in Amsterdam.
