The event will formally launch the Geneva Democracy Week (http://www.semaine-democratie.ch) and open with welcoming remarks by the Secretary-General of the IPU, Mr. Martin Chungong. It  will feature an inter-active dialogue, moderated by Ms. Gunilla von Hall, with three fascinating personalities:

 Ms. Izzah Anwar (Malaysia), Member of Parliament and human rights activist;
 Mr. Joachim Son-Forget (France), Member of the National Assembly, La République En
Marche;
 Mr. John Githongo (Kenya), journalist and leading figure in the fight against corruption.

The event will be closed with concluding remarks by the Chancellor of the Republic and Canton of Geneva, Ms. Anja Wyden Guelpa.

Democracy and human rights are under attack in many places around the world. Multilateralism is being challenged and we are witnessing a sharp spike in populism and nationalism. The special guests will provide their unique perspectives on the current state of democracy in the world, on challenges facing our societies today and innovative ways to rejuvenate democracy and ensure human rights and dignity for all. They will interact with the audience in a direct and thought-provoking exchange.

The event will be followed by a reception in the Restaurant des Délégués.
